We are looking for service-oriented nature guides for our Naturum in Abisko

Naturum Abisko is located in Abisko National Park and serves as part of the main entrance to the national park. We are centrally located by the Abisko Tourist Station and near Abisko Östra. Abisko National Park is visited by more than 100,000 people annually, and we at Naturum meet a large portion of these visitors. Naturum is a visitor center where we work to increase knowledge, understanding, and interest in the area's nature, culture, and experience values.

About the job

The main theme for Naturum is Abisko National Park and how the area is affected by humans. We inspire hiking and exploration in the area. We provide tips on longer mountain hikes and shorter tours in the vicinity. We assist in identifying birds or flowers, engage in discussions about nature conservation, environmental protection, and climate change. Through our exhibitions and activities, we aim to spread knowledge and engagement about nature in general and Abisko's nature and culture in particular. Our guiding principles are Accessible, Inspiring, and Welcoming!

The tasks involve a great variety with a focus on staffing the Naturum and activities in the surrounding area.

  • Guide and inform visitors about the nature and culture of the Abisko area,
  • Staffing the Naturum, its exhibitions, information desk, and shop,
  • Planning and conducting nature guidance in the form of outdoor tours and indoor lectures,
  • Updating and planning posts on social media,
  • Supervision and maintenance of nature trails and rest areas in the national park,
  • Cash handling,
  • Simple administrative tasks,
  • Certain maintenance of Naturum's exhibitions and premises.

Independent work occurs with full responsibility for opening and closing the Naturum. We are now looking for three to five seasonal employees to cover staffing for the period from June 15 to September 28 or as agreed.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

  • ongoing or completed education in one or more of the fields of biology, ecology, geology, nature guidance, or other relevant natural science education.
  • good personal knowledge of the Abisko area.
  • personal experience of nature and outdoor life as well as physical ability for simple hiking in mountain terrain,
  • knowledge of mountain flora or mountain birds.
  • previous experience in the tourism or service industry.
  • good communication skills and can express yourself well in speech and writing.

As a person, you are positive, outgoing, and have an easy time collaborating. You have the ability to convey knowledge and a sense of nature in a pedagogical and engaging manner. Furthermore, you are flexible and creative and contribute to a positive work environment.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • previous experience in Naturum operations and nature guidance,
  • knowledge of the area's cultural history, Sami culture, and reindeer husbandry,
  • skills in languages other than Swedish and English,
  • experience in simple carpentry and repair work.

If you are called for an interview, you may be required to do a work test.

Since some jobs with us require security clearance, you may undergo a security review before employment. This includes a security interview and background check. For certain jobs, Swedish citizenship is required.
